Our first business testimonial for this week highlights the story of Ringel’s Ceramics, provided by owner Mrs. Helen Ringel. Ringel’s Ceramics is a full service ceramic shop. They handle all supplies, cast their pieces, fire, and can do finished pieces to order. Classes are offered. They also ship Bisque and Finished Products.
Why did you decide to start-up a business in Ambridge?
We have been here since 1988. Ambridge was my hometown so my husband and I, we were living in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, decided to move up here to start the business. It was and still is so much cheaper to own a business in Ambridge.
What was your experience like in obtaining financing?
This business was all privately financed. The Borough was helpful as we went through the process and we also used the façade grant for our storefront, which was a very helpful program.
What advice would you have for a beginning business owner?
As a business owner, you need a lot of courage and stick-to-it-iveness. If you can get through all of the paperwork and heavy lifting, Ambridge is a wonderful place to own a business. This is such a nice little town and I would love to see more small businesses come here.
What was your biggest surprise in starting your business?
We were very surprised that most of our clients came from out of town. Ambridge is located in a convenient location for people to access from all over, especially with how close it is to Pittsburgh. There are such wonderful community events here as well and it would be great to see more local support for all of the small businesses in town.
How have you been impacted by the community of Ambridge after opening this business?
It has been so easy to become connected in Ambridge which has allowed for me to become very involved in community events and organizations. For example, I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, and am also active in my church. I actually live right upstairs above my business and it has been a great place to live. I have never felt unsafe in all of these years and I can easily walk to most stores that I need to get to. Ambridge is such a great little town to live in.
