SWEET PICKLES TREASURES
SWEET PICKLES TREASURES
It was such a pleasure to interview Mike Bradovich, owner of Sweet Pickles Treasures, and hear how he and Joe have worked hard to bring this quality antique store to Ambridge and spread positivity wherever they go.
Why did you decide to start-up a business in Ambridge?
My mother was a long time resident of Ambridge and I was born and raised just a little further away in Aliquippa. When we looked here two years ago, the building was basically a storage area. The purpose of opening up this business was to empty out our houses of all of the antiques that we have been collecting throughout the years. I have been collecting ever since I was in my twenties but we have also acquired a lot of the goods in this store over the past two years. A lot of people have questions about the name of our store. We are named “Sweet Pickles Treasures” after our little rescue dog, Pickle.
What was your experience like in obtaining financing?
Joe used his 401k plan to buy the building and we have learned a lot in our process in terms of permits, ordinances, roofs, etc. We were so excited to start this antique store because you can see the enthusiasm and energy in this town. It will take time, but things are happening and I have noticed changes even since I’ve opened.
What advice would you have for a beginning business owner?
Look at the potential of the community. Always try to be involved in events that are occurring around town and engage with your fellow business owners, networking is very important. Also, make sure to advertise your business well and market to the right audience with a positive message. Do not foster negativity. Personally, I want to show people nothing but a smile and a positive experience.
What was your biggest surprise in starting your business?
I want to offer people love and encouragement. I’m not here for the money, I’m here for the people and this town. I have met so many amazing people and have shared incredible experiences with my customers. These connections are indescribable.
How have you been impacted by the community of Ambridge after opening this business?
Ambridge is full of loving people and we are very welcoming of younger generations who bring the positive change that is needed for this area. Good hearted people are bringing change to Ambridge. I love that the Borough and Chamber are working hard for this community.
